DTF Preventive Maintenance Checklist
Most DTF breakdowns are preventable. A few minutes of routine care — especially on the white-ink system — keeps heads healthy and jobs out the door. Here’s a practical schedule.
Daily
- Agitate / confirm circulation of the white ink before the first job.
- Print a nozzle test at startup — catch a clog before a 50-shirt run.
- Wipe the capping station and wiper; check for dried ink.
- Keep the shop humid enough — dry air dries nozzles.
Weekly
- Clean the cap station and wiper blade thoroughly.
- Inspect dampers and ink lines for settled white pigment.
- Check the encoder strip and rails for ink mist / dust.
- Shake white ink bottles; verify supply levels.
Monthly / Quarterly
- Deep-clean or replace dampers and inline filters as needed.
- Service the pump and check for air in the lines.
- Run color and bi-directional alignment / calibration.
- Inspect belts, rails and the carriage for wear.
- Check the shaker/dryer: powder feed, heating, film tracking.
The one rule that matters most
Never let a white-ink DTF printer sit idle without circulating. A weekend of settled white is the number-one cause of clogged dampers and “dead” heads. If the shop will be down for a stretch, run circulation or follow your printer’s idle procedure.
